On January 15 and 16, 2008, the first city non-profit rental apartments, built within the SIRP Programme, were ceremonially delivered in Pancevo and Kragujevac. City owned apartments were built and will be managed by the City/Municipal Housing Agency.
The ceremony of key-delivery for 76 apartments in Pancevo, in the settlement Streliste, was held in the presence of Vice President of Serbian Government, Mr. Bozidar Djelic; HE Ambassador of Italy, Mr. Alessandro Merola; UN-HABITAT Programme Coordinator, Mr. Jean-Yves Barcelo; UNHCR Representative in Serbia, Mr. Lennart Kotsalainen. Host of the event was Municipality of Pancevo, represented by the Mayor, Mr. Srdjan Mikovic, and Pancevo Municipal Housing Agency.
In Kragujevac, 59 out of total number of 76 families settled in their new homes, the newly built apartments for social housing. In the presence of future owners, the apartments were ceremonially delivered by the Italian Ambassador, State Secretary Milan Miljevic, UN-HABITAT and UNHCR representatives, Mayor of Kragujevac, Mr. Veroljub Stevanovic and Director of City Housing Agency, Mr. Vladan Mihajilovic. Completion of construction and moving in the remaining 17 apartments is planned for March 2008. |
